Promoting sustainability?
Circus Solarus provides roving entertainers and activities for children - all with an environmental theme.
Fashion of the Future
Our Fashion of the Future characters wear unique hand made costumes that are constructed of such materials as recycled maps, tea towels, clothes pegs and paper doilies. Promoting sustainability in a fun and entertaining way, these characters strut, promenade, then strike a pose in unison, on the most egalitarian of catwalks –the street!
These spectacular costumed characters were an Australian feature at the Singapore Arts Festival in 2009.
The Shower Show
The Froth sisters sing away as they roam the performance site with their shower on wheels. A 10 second record is announced, until members of the audience accept the challenge to beat that. Combining colourful props and lots of humour to support the water conservation theme, the Shower Show is a popular act for festivals and outdoor events.
Games and children’s activities.
Our games such as the Race Against Time provide children with a fun experience while reinforcing concepts of sustainability, recycling and protecting the environment. Participants follow an obstacle course incorporating large colourful props in a ‘race against time.’ Activities include rescuing the frogs, watering the talking tree, putting the veggie scraps in the compost bin and sneaking past the crocodiles. It’s bright, colourful and educational. A unique alternative to the jumping castle!
Get your message across in an effective and entertaining way.
Our characters can promote any information you require. For example, the Sea Creatures are looking for a new place to live, as their home is under threat. The characters inform (or remind!) the public about the consequences of careless waste disposal.
Talking Trees
Our Tree characters are old growth trees, under threat not only from indiscriminate logging for woodchips, but also from the spread of introduced ‘exotics.’ They encourage the audience to think about their own gardening habits, for example - how environmentally friendly are their own backyards? These concerns are explored while the characters ‘water’ and ‘weed’ the audience with their gardening tools.
Materials
Circus Solarus has long recognised the benefits of using recycled or reclaimed materials in their work. From costumes to workshop materials, our policy has always been to reuse, reshape and re-imagine. Our sculptures and large images rely on sustainable bamboo and cane materials.
