Environmental Entertainment

Promoting sustainability?
Circus Solarus provides roving entertainers and activities for children - all with an environmental theme.
Fashion of the Future
Our Fashion of the Future characters wear unique hand made costumes that are constructed of such materials as recycled magazines, tea towels, clothes pegs and paper doilies. Promoting sustainability in a fun and entertaining way, these characters strut, promenade, then strike a pose in unison, on the most egalitarian of catwalks –the street!
The latest costumes to join this range made from recycled Chinese mats and kimonos are the Eco Samurai with colourful brooms to sweep away all environmental problems.
These spectacular costumed characters were an Australian feature at the Singapore Arts Festival in 2009.
The Environmental Assessors
On stilts or as ground characters our Climate Scientists use a humorous approach to encourage people to do more for the environment by assessing the size of people’s carbon footprint, a roaming act that can incorporate many different environmental messages into their rapport depending on the theme of the event or festival
Games and children’s activities.
Our workshop activities provide children with a fun experience while reinforcing concepts of sustainability, recycling and protecting the environment. Participants make hats, fans, puppets out of re-purposed materials we have sourced from industry or recycling depots.
Get your message across in an effective and entertaining way.
Our characters can promote any information you require. For example, the Sea Creatures are looking for a new place to live, as their home is under threat. The characters inform (or remind!) the public about the consequences of careless waste disposal.

Talking Trees
Our Tree characters are old growth trees, under threat not only from indiscriminate logging for woodchips, but also from the spread of introduced ‘exotics.’ They encourage the audience to think about their own gardening habits, for example - how environmentally friendly are their own backyards? These concerns are explored while the characters ‘water’ and ‘weed’ the audience with their gardening tools.
Materials
Circus Solarus has long recognised the benefits of using recycled or reclaimed materials in their work. From costumes to workshop materials, our policy has always been to reuse, reshape and re-imagine. Our sculptures and large images rely on sustainable bamboo and cane materials.
