Concepts and characters
We develop concepts and characters for museums and galleries. Visitors are invited to participate in a fun and informative experience. Through collaborations with some of Australia’s major institutions, Circus Solarus has produced numerous projects for museums - ranging in scale from active adventure games for children outside the National Museum of Australia to performances in the grand exhibition hall at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney.
Museum journeys
Our performers can take the audience on a museum tour. Through research and consultation, we develop performances to highlight the Museum collection or a special exhibition.
Children’s activities
Circus Solarus combines art activities and performance in unique ways to create memorable activities for children. These can be research-based and educational.
Lawrence Hargrave’s Flight School for Viva La Gong focussed on the history of aviation in Australia. We ran a fun educational activity with children and built a large “flyingmachine”, based on original drawings and concepts.
In 2009, The Australian National Maritime Museum commissioned us to create a community sculpture of the Beagle, to coincide with the Charles Darwin exhibition.
Other activities are based on games, such as the Renaissance Jousting tournament for Imperial Austria at the Powerhouse Museum.
Open days and events
Circus Solarus provides roaming characters to mingle and engage with visitors at special events. Our comic characters break the ice and encourage conversation, humour and good will.
