Circus Solarus were commissioned by Wollongong City Council to create a live game show complete with theme music, spinning wheel and comic presenters. Initiated by Sand Hall, Community Development worker, the idea was to provide a fun, yet informative event where residents from Warrawong could connect with services such as Centrelink; the Illawarra Ethnic Communities Council and Healthy Cities Illawarra. The day coincided with the free lunch offerred by Warrawong Community Centre and a number of community service groups set up information tables throughout the hall. The game show; Get Connected! ran to a quiz format, with participants having to answer such questions as;
“Who do you talk to for clear impartial advice if you’re thinking about going into a detox program? Is it A) Ronald McDonald; B) Your mum; or C) First Step Services at Port Kembla Hospital.”
Prizes, generously donated by many individuals, including staff from Centrelink; ranged from toiletries to electric coffee makers. Our comic characters were parodies of television game show presenters. Catherine was the host and Janine delighted everyone as the lovely assistant- all very tongue in cheek and designed to promote an informal atmosphere where people would feel comfortable to have a chat wih others at the event. Feedback has been nothing but positive with people commenting that what could have been a dry information session was transformed into a fun event. The Circus Solarus team enjoy coming up with tailor made solutions to your projects, so even if you don’t know exactly what you’re after you can float any ideas our way and we’ll devise a unique event to suit.
